A release today can describe an earlier market

Tuesday brings the return of certain Federal Reserve statistical publications after Monday’s US holiday. That change in the timetable is useful to know, but it does not make every published number a current trading quote. For EUR/USD, the practical question is when the underlying observation was made, not simply when the page appeared.

The Fed’s October calendar says daily and weekly releases otherwise due on Columbus Day were deferred to 13 October. It lists the H.10 foreign-exchange release for today. At this morning’s assessment, today’s scheduled publication is not treated as an already released result.

Why H.10 is not a live price feed

The Fed’s H.10 methodology explains that its weekly release contains daily bilateral exchange rates and nominal dollar indexes from the previous week. The exchange rates are New York noon buying rates used for specified official purposes. Historical releases may not include subsequent revisions.

This gives the series a role in documenting earlier currency conditions. It does not verify the price available from a broker during today’s European session. Our editorial interpretation is that a delayed official release can improve the historical record without supplying an intraday directional signal.

Before comparing any observations, check the reference dates, units and revision treatment. A later publication date does not move an older observation into the present. We therefore do not convert the scheduled H.10 release into an entry level, price target or claim that the dollar is strengthening now.

Europe’s latest rate observation is also dated

The ECB’s euro-area long-term interest rate series for convergence purposes shows 3.93% for September 2026. Its portal metadata says last updated on 12 October at 10:00 CEST. This is an already available monthly observation, not a new result released this morning.

The reference month and the update timestamp serve different purposes. A monthly long-term rate is neither a monthly percentage change nor an ECB policy decision. It adds context to financing conditions, but does not establish today’s EUR/USD response.

The next inflation release remains tomorrow

The BLS calendar lists no selected national release for 13 October. September’s Consumer Price Index and Real Earnings are scheduled for 14 October at 14:30 CEST. The listed 08:30 Eastern time is EDT, while Copenhagen remains on CEST, giving a six-hour difference.

Those releases are still in the future. Today’s calendar cannot establish their outcome, a consensus surprise or the Fed’s subsequent decision. A useful reading tomorrow will separate the reference month, new observations and any revisions before interpreting the implications for relative policy.

Existing policy evidence remains conditional. In his 8 October speech, Fed Governor Christopher Waller described stable employment and inflation that remained too high, with further increases dependent on incoming data and flexible timing. This is his published view, not a new FOMC vote today.

The ECB account published on 8 October concerns the meeting of 9 to 10 September. It records the September increase and persistent inflation risks, while preserving a data-dependent approach without a promised rate path. Inflation concerns on both sides do not by themselves identify the stronger currency.

Scenarios for 13 October

Main scenario: neutral through today’s European and US sessions. Neither currency is favoured because no fresh EUR/USD quote with a usable instrument timestamp and quantified delay has been verified. This is a macro and calendar assessment.

Down alternative: fresh evidence supporting firmer Fed expectations relative to the ECB could strengthen USD, weaken EUR and put downward pressure on EUR/USD. Up alternative: softer US expectations or firmer relative ECB guidance could strengthen EUR against USD and support EUR/USD.

Material official communication, significant revisions or verified evidence of a shift in relative policy expectations would change the assessment. A scheduled discussion alone does not supply its conclusions. The scenarios are uncertain and contain no numerical forecast, probability or promised return.
