IC Markets EU review: Raw pricing, platforms and real costs
IC Markets EU is most relevant to traders who want to compare raw-spread pricing across MetaTrader and cTrader, with TradingView available through the cTrader account route. The headline spread is only part of the price: commissions, overnight financing, slippage and inactivity fees need to be included.
Start with IC Markets (EU) Ltd
This review concerns IC Markets (EU) Ltd, the Cyprus company listed by CySEC under licence 362/18. It does not combine the European account with international or Australian account conditions. The regulator’s register is the starting point for checking company identity and approved domains. A familiar brand name is not enough to establish which protections apply to your funds. CySEC register entry.
The EU website excludes residents of Belgium, the UK, the US and Brazil from its intended audience, alongside jurisdictions where the service would breach local rules. Acceptance also depends on residence, documentation and the broker’s assessment. Check the entity in the actual application, particularly if an advertisement or affiliate link takes you to a different regional website. IC Markets EU regional restrictions.
For a Danish resident, an English-language international site and an English-language EU site may look similar while offering different contracts. Save the European client agreement and verify the company again on payment instructions.
Retail protections and regulatory history
The EU account overview publishes retail leverage up to 1:30 and a 50% margin stop-out level. The maximum applies to eligible major forex pairs; different asset classes have different limits. Negative balance protection is available to retail clients, while the broker’s FAQ says it does not apply to professional clients. These protections do not prevent losing the money committed to CFD trading. Account overview · EU FAQ.
The Investor Compensation Fund policy provides conditional cover for eligible claims if the firm cannot meet relevant obligations: the lower of 90% of the covered claim or €20,000, aggregated for the client. It does not reimburse ordinary market losses. Client eligibility and exclusions matter. ICF policy.
A balanced review must also acknowledge the regulator’s record. CySEC announced a €200,000 fine on 19 July 2024 concerning activities that circumvented CFD initial-margin requirements. Its decision page records judicial review on 30 September 2024. We have not established a final court outcome and do not imply that the appeal resolved the matter in either direction. Standard versus Raw Spread
| Account route | Published forex pricing | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader Standard | No separate forex commission; spreads from 0.8 pip | Actual spread during your trading hours |
| MetaTrader Raw Spread | Spreads from 0.0 pip plus $3.50 per standard lot per side in a USD account | Spread plus $7 round trip per standard lot |
| cTrader Raw Spread | Spreads from 0.0 pip plus $3 per US$100,000 traded per side | Dollar notional at opening and closing |
These are the published EU forex structures. The MetaTrader commission differs with account base currency; the pricing page lists €6.50 round trip per standard lot for a EUR account. Precious metals and other CFDs can have different schedules. The minimum spread is not a guaranteed or independently measured average. Trading costs.
A spread-only account can simplify record keeping, but it is not automatically more suitable for a beginner. Choose by the measured total cost at the size, pair and time you actually trade, rather than by the account label.
A transparent EUR/USD cost example
Assume one standard lot of EUR/USD, a USD account, a hypothetical 0.2-pip spread and no overnight hold, conversion fee or slippage. Each pip is $10, so the spread costs $2. MetaTrader Raw adds $7 round-trip commission, giving an estimated $9 total, or 0.9 pip.
For cTrader, also assume EUR/USD equals 1.1000 at both ends of the illustration. The 100,000-EUR trade has $110,000 notional. Commission is $3.30 at entry and $3.30 at exit, so the total including spread is $8.60. If the exchange rate changes, the closing commission changes too. It is incorrect to call the cTrader commission a fixed $6 per EUR/USD standard lot regardless of exchange rate.
For Standard, an assumed one-pip spread would cost $10 without a separate forex commission. This assumed spread is for demonstrating the calculation, not a claim about the broker’s typical quote. Add $4 of adverse slippage and a $5 overnight debit to any relevant scenario and those items add $9 to the estimate. A credit swap would reduce cost, but should only be included when verified for the specific position and rollover date.
Use actual fills and account statements to compare the available alternatives. A small difference in headline commission can be outweighed by financing, spreads around news or the way your orders execute.
MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView
IC Markets EU offers MT4 and MT5 alongside cTrader. MT4 is useful for an existing MQL4 system; MT5 offers an MQL5 environment and a more extensive strategy-testing workflow. cTrader provides a different interface and an automation environment built around cTrader Algo. Code and custom indicators are not interchangeable between these platforms. Choose the platform that supports the actual system you intend to maintain. MT5 information · cTrader information.
TradingView is now described on the EU website. The broker identifies the cTrader Raw Spread account route for that integration and states that not every instrument is available there. Confirm the enabled account, symbols and commission schedule before assuming an existing MetaTrader login will connect. A free TradingView plan can connect according to the broker; extra charting features can have separate platform subscription costs. IC Markets EU on TradingView.
Test order placement, modification, partial closing and history export in the platform you will use. A script or alert on a chart is not automatically an order-execution system. Website latency claims should not be treated as independently verified execution results.
Products, execution and strategy fit
The EU product menu includes CFDs on forex, commodities, indices, bonds, shares, crypto and futures-related underlyings. Availability differs by platform. Buying a share CFD does not make you a shareholder, and a futures CFD is not the same contract as an exchange-traded future. Check financing, dividend adjustments, expiry, trading sessions and contract sizes before adding a new symbol. EU product and platform menu.
Raw pricing may be useful for an active system whose results are sensitive to transaction costs. It does not by itself demonstrate exchange access, remove counterparty risk or establish that a broker is always the cheapest. Market and stop orders can execute at worse or better prices than expected. A backtest that assumes every stop fills exactly at its trigger price can materially understate risk.
For an EA, include spread filters, maximum position exposure, duplicate-order prevention and recovery after a lost connection. Avoid changing to a live account solely because a demo curve looks smooth; demo fills are an operational check rather than a complete simulation of live liquidity.
Funding, withdrawals and inactivity
The current EU FAQ states a minimum deposit of €200 or currency equivalent. It also reserves the right to charge 10 units of account currency per account per month after six consecutive months without trading activity. Logins, deposits and withdrawals alone do not reset that period. Do not place an unwanted trade simply to avoid a fee; ask about withdrawing and closing an unused funded account. Minimum deposit and inactivity policy.
The withdrawal page states processing within 24 hours and roughly two to five business days for bank receipt, with possible intermediary-bank charges. Those are published timeframes, not a guarantee for every method or a result from our own test. Identity checks, incomplete payment details and bank processing can affect delivery. Withdrawal information.
Confirm the available payment methods in the secure client area, the currency conversion path and whether funds must return to the original source. A DKK bank account funding a EUR trading account can create a cost before the first trade. Save copies of fee disclosures, funding confirmations and withdrawals.
Strengths and limitations
Potential strengths
- Several established platform choices, including a documented EU TradingView connection route.
- Published spread and commission structures support a detailed comparison.
- Retail margin controls and negative balance protection under the European account.
Material limitations
- cTrader commissions use dollar notional, making simple per-lot comparisons misleading.
- Inactivity charges can affect a funded account kept unused.
- Regulatory history deserves attention alongside current licence status.
- Raw pricing does not remove swaps, slippage, counterparty risk or potential full loss of CFD funds.
IC Markets EU is worth comparing when the required platform, country eligibility and all-in cost match a written trading plan. It is less compelling for someone seeking passive long-term ownership of investments or a deposit account. Judge any support or education claims through practical use; this review does not assign a fabricated service score.
Evidence and review limitations
Checked on 5 September 2026 against official broker documents and CySEC publications. We did not conduct live execution, uptime or withdrawal testing. Example spreads, exchange rates and financing amounts are explicitly hypothetical; they are not forecasts or measured averages. Affiliate relationships, where applicable, are disclosed before account links. CFD trading is high risk, and current pricing and legal terms must be checked before funding.
