HFM review: accounts, costs and the EU eligibility change
HFM offers a broad international trading platform range, but the contracting entity is decisive. HF Markets (Europe) Ltd currently accepts only per se professional clients and eligible counterparties. Ordinary EU retail traders should not treat its international account advertisements as an available EU retail offer.
The first question: can you actually open the reviewed account?
HF Markets (Europe) Ltd does not currently accept retail clients or elective professional clients. Its published client categorisation policy restricts new business to per se professional clients and eligible counterparties. These are legal categories, generally involving regulated financial institutions, qualifying large businesses and institutional counterparties; they do not simply mean an individual who trades frequently. The restriction appears both on the European homepage and in the policy itself. European homepage · Client categorisation policy.
This changes the practical conclusion for a private trader in Denmark or another EEA country. An older HFM review discussing a small Micro account and a straightforward European retail application is no longer a reliable guide to availability. An existing client should ask the company how its current agreement and servicing arrangements apply to them; the public onboarding statement alone does not settle every legacy account situation.
Do not choose a different country in an application to bypass eligibility. If you need an EU retail CFD account, compare entities that explicitly accept that category and your actual country of residence.
Regulation belongs to the legal company
CySEC’s register identifies HF Markets (Europe) Ltd under licence 183/12 and lists hfeu.com among its approved domains. That is meaningful verification of the European company’s identity. It is not a performance guarantee or permission to attach European protections to every account carrying the HFM logo. CySEC register entry.
The group separately identifies HF Markets (UK) Ltd under FCA reference 801701, HF Markets (Seychelles) Ltd under FSA licence SD015 and HF Markets SA (PTY) Ltd under FSCA licence 46632. A licence held by one group company does not regulate another company’s contract. The international website also lists an incorporated St Vincent company; incorporation should not be confused with investment services authorisation. HFM group regulatory information.
Before agreeing to terms, match the company on the application, contract, payment instructions and complaints policy. Obtain written confirmation of applicable client-money arrangements and insolvency protection. HFM’s European categorisation policy says professional clients are not entitled to compensation under the ICF; its present professional-only offering must therefore not be described as if it carried standard retail compensation eligibility.
International accounts: useful distinctions, with limits
The international comparison page lists Cent, Zero, Pro and Premium accounts, alongside a regional promotional account. Cent uses a smaller contract convention: its published one-lot size is 1,000 units, compared with 100,000 units on the standard accounts. That matters when calculating position size; a displayed lot is not interchangeable across these accounts. The same page advertises variable spreads from 1.4 pips for Premium and Cent, 0.6 pips for Pro and 0.0 pips on eligible Zero forex symbols. These are minimum advertisements, not typical execution costs. International account comparison.
The Zero account’s forex commission table publishes $6 for a complete opening-and-closing transaction in 100,000 units. Gold has a separate schedule, so the forex rate should not be reused for a gold calculator. There is also a documentation inconsistency: the Zero page’s main account table says no minimum opening deposit while its FAQ says $25. Confirm the actual account and payment minimum in writing instead of relying on one of these conflicting numbers. Zero account terms and commission table.
These international pages state that their materials are not intended for individuals in the EU or UK. They are described here to explain the brand’s products, not as an EU retail account recommendation.
What a Zero forex trade might cost
Consider an illustrative one-standard-lot EUR/USD trade in a USD account. Assume a 0.2-pip spread, $6 round-trip commission, no financing because the position closes before rollover, and no slippage or conversion charge. One pip on 100,000 EUR is $10, so the spread component is $2 and the estimated total is $8, equivalent to 0.8 pip. The spread is an example input, not an HFM average or a live quote.
If combined adverse entry and exit slippage adds 0.3 pip, the same trade costs approximately $11. Repeating the original $8 trade 100 times would cost $800 before any other charges. This is why a zero minimum spread does not mean cost-free trading, and why small expected gains can disappear after realistic execution costs.
For a different pair, use its actual pip value in your account currency. Add overnight financing or carry charges, account-currency conversion, applicable data or VPS charges and funding costs. Compare the complete holding period you intend to use; the cheapest intraday account need not be the cheapest account for a position held for several weeks.
Platforms, automation and instruments
The international offering includes MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, HFM WebTrader and the HFM Platform. MT4 is relevant when an existing workflow depends on an MQL4 indicator or Expert Advisor. MT5 is relevant for newer MQL5 tools and a broader testing workflow. A web or phone interface is useful for monitoring, but verify the functions you need on that particular device. A desktop EA does not start running merely because the same trading account is visible in a mobile app. HFM MT4 information.
Product availability depends on entity, account and platform. The international Zero page describes CFDs across forex, metals, energies, indices, shares, crypto, ETFs and bonds. A CFD provides contractual exposure to a price; it should not be presented as ownership of the underlying share, currency or fund. Read contract size, trading hours, price increment, financing and expiry terms for every symbol you plan to trade.
For automation, test the exact broker symbol and account specification on demo first. Include order-size rounding, rejected orders, disconnections and changes in spread. A successful software installation demonstrates compatibility, not that the strategy has a profitable edge.
Swap-free claims, funding and support
HFM’s international swap-free material limits the feature to selected accounts and instruments and describes a specified number of holding days. It also notes that some instruments can attract carry charges after successive rollovers. Treat eligibility, the holding period and the current rollover policy as part of the price. Do not assume that every position can remain open indefinitely without financing. Swap-free conditions.
Payment availability varies by country and legal entity. Establish the accepted deposit method, account currency, minimum withdrawal, verification requirements and return-to-source process before funding. A broker processing a withdrawal is different from the bank delivering it. Keep sufficient free margin if withdrawing while positions are open. The international funding information is a starting point, while the terms delivered for your entity are decisive. International funding information.
We have not measured support response times or completed a live withdrawal test. A practical way to assess service is to request precise written answers about your intended symbol’s commission, overnight treatment and legal entity. Preserve the reply with the account agreement.
Strengths, trade-offs and who should consider it
Potential strengths
- Several platform routes for eligible international clients, including established MetaTrader workflows.
- A published Zero forex commission schedule makes an all-in cost comparison possible.
- Cent contract sizing may help eligible clients test smaller monetary exposures when the contract specification is understood.
Material trade-offs
- The European company is not a current retail onboarding option.
- International marketing and group licences can be easy to misapply to the wrong entity.
- Conflicting minimum-deposit statements need clarification; swap-free treatment requires close reading.
- Minimum spreads and advertised execution features are not independently measured performance results.
An eligible international trader with a specific MetaTrader requirement may find HFM worth comparing after resolving the entity and cost questions. An ordinary EU retail trader should first choose an available regulated retail entity elsewhere. Neither a low deposit nor a high leverage setting makes a position affordable to lose.
Review scope and disclosure
Reviewed on 5 September 2026 using the linked broker and regulator documents. This is a documentation review, not firsthand testing of fills, uptime, support or withdrawals. Rates, product lists and eligibility can change, and the signed agreement and platform specification should be checked before any decision. The site may earn compensation through clearly labelled affiliate links. That relationship does not change the eligibility restriction or the risks described here. CFDs and other leveraged derivatives can produce rapid, substantial losses.
